Individual lessons and Group lessons are available for the instruments listed below.

All groups work with experienced staff to develop their instrumental skills through listening and playing as part of an ensemble. They rehearse a wide variety of music, and give regular concerts.
Recorder
Beginner and Preliminary standards
Saturday: 08.45-09.45
The recorder is an excellent instrument with which to begin music-making. Our beginner group is for children who have never played before. They are taught the basics of recorder playing and they begin to read music. The preliminary group have the opportunity to take music medal exams and the intermediate group introduces children to playing the treble and tenor recorders.
Advanced players
Saturday: 10.30-11.15
For players at grade 3 or above . The group uses the full range of recorders from sopranino to bass. They explore a wide repertoire from early music to arrangements of popular songs from films and musicals. This group develops skills in ensemble playing.
Recorders Again (Adult Recorder Group)
Occasional Saturday afternoons: 14.30-17.00
Theory
Saturday: 09.00-10.00
for players or singers who need help and practice at the various tests set in theory exams
A pass at Grade 5 is required for entry to practical exams at Grade 6 and above.
Junior Music Group
Saturday: 09.15-10.15
for Key Stages 1 - 2
A foundation for musical progression through work with percussion instruments, songs and recorders.
Singing
Junior Choir
Saturday: 10:30-11:15
For younger singers to develop their voices and to learn to read music. The children sing a wide variety of music and action songs.
Senior Choir
Saturday: 10:30-11:15
For intermediate singers to explore their voices through pop songs and songs from films and shows.
You do not need to take singing lessons but we can help you to arrange these at schools or in the Music Centres if you wish.
The 414 Choir (the Music Centres' Adult SATB Choir)
Monday: 20:00-21:45 (at St Mary's Church, Hertingfordbury)
From January at the Broxbourne Music centre from 19.45
Orchestras & Groups
Flute Ensemble
Saturday: 10.00-10.45
For players at grade 3 or above. The group explore a wide range of repertoire and experiment with modern techniques. Students are given the opportunity to play piccolo and alto flute and develop skills in ensemble playing
Saturday: 11.15-12.15
For wind and brass players at grade 3 or above. The group explores a wide range of repertoire from film music to well-known classics. It provides excellent ensemble training as well as the experience required for players to progress on to Concert Band or Youth Orchestra.
Junior Brass Group
Saturday: 10.45-11.15
For players at grade 1 or above. The group enables young players to experience playing in an ensemble. They will explore a wide range of music from different genres and they will develop greater skills in sight-reading. All instruments from the brass family are welcome.
Junior String Ensemble
Saturday: 11.15-11.45
For children from beginner level to grade 3. To explore playing within an ensemble. Violin, viola, cello and double bass are welcome.
