KS2 Festival
Project Outline

  • One school acts as a host venue for a half-day, during which one year group in KS2  or 2 consecutive year groups (3/4, 4/5 or 5/6) from local schools sing a themed selection of songs together. With an emphasis on a relaxed and fun atmosphere, staff and children come together to experience the joy of singing in a large group - without the stress of performing to an invited audience.
  • The session is led by two Music Service Consultants.
  • There can also be the opportunity for a very short instrumental or vocal performance by a local secondary school - to give examples of role modelling and inspiration for young people and to encourage community cohesion and partnerships between schools.
  • The Festival lasts for approximately an hour and a half and often ends with the host school providing refreshments.
  • The cost of the complete package is shared by the primary schools.

FAQs

How much? Who pays?

The cost is split between the participating schools. The package will be tailor-made to your requirements – following your initial contact and discussion, you will be quoted the full cost BEFORE you commit.

What do we need to be involved?

The Hall (no chairs), piano or keyboard, a CD player and lots of enthusiasm!

What do we sing?

A selection of songs on a theme, unaccompanied and with an accompaniment.

How do we learn the songs?

A CD with accompanying lyrics is provided by the Music Service.

Who sings what?

Everyone sings everything! No solos or individual school items are required but, of course, the format is adaptable.

Who do we invite?

That is entirely up to you. Do you have particular links with other schools in your consortium? Are there partnerships with other schools that you would like to encourage and develop? The number that can take part obviously depends on the capacity of your school hall but as a general rule numbers above 250 become more of a “crowd control” issue for all concerned.

How can secondary schools be involved?

Secondary schools often have an amazing variety of talented performers from Barber Shop Quartets to rock bands. They may be able to provide a choir, an individual performance or a band – with sufficient notice! - for a short performance.

Do I have to supervise other schools?

The emphasis is on participation by all pupils and staff involved. Each school is responsible for their own pupils.

What themes can we use?

Some suggested topics: 'All Round the Brickyard', 'Songs for Playtime' or curriculum based material agreed by the schools. The package will be designed around what YOU want.
