Fanfare for a Gala is a brief but rousing work for orchestra lasting just one minute. There are two very simple ideas in the piece. The first is a melodic fragment consisting of the notes G-A (from the word Gala) which is then extended into a rising four-note scale; the second is the naturally syncopated rhythm of the phrase "Sing Up Gala" which appears almost constantly throughout. The music is purposely brash, with a fast pace that does not let up.
